BILL CUNNINGHAM praised in New York Magazine's The Year in Culture
This week's New York magazine says "Over the past month, we quizzed 97 New York culture mavens (and some visiting luminaries) on the best movies, tweets, and other artistic artifacts they’ve encountered this year" and under "Other Great Performances" New Yorker music critic Sasha Frere-Jones writes “Bill Cunningham owned 2011. Softer than soft, harder than hard, Bill is the realest New Yorker alive. And Occupy? Bill had it down in 1988: ‘Money is cheap. Freedom is expensive.’ Never take the money.” And under "Movie I Wish I'd Made" author Colum McCann (Let the Great World Spin) selects Bill Cunningham New York!

BILL CUNNINGHAM NEW YORK named one of the best films of 2011 so far on IndieWire
“Lovingly directed by Richard Press, Bill Cunningham New York is a love letter to a New York institution whose keen eye for fashion often sets or precedes the trends that later appear in the pages of Vogue or other highly influential magazines. Yet, despite working for one of the most prestigious newspapers in the world in an industry that could certainly allow him to live a life of luxury, it’s Cunningham’s humble attitude, spartan lifestyle and dedication to everyday people instead of the glitterati that makes for a fascinating and at times, surprisingly moving documentary.... His acceptance speech in 2008 when receiving a special award from the French Ministry of Culture says all you need to know about the man, and it will leave in you tears.” Read the whole article here.
